A Distinguished History
With the 1999 acquisition of CIGNA’s worldwide property and casualty business, ACE inherited a distinguished history dating back to 1792 when the Insurance Company of North America (INA) was founded as the first U.S.-based marine insurance company.  
 

By removing financial risk from the dangers of ocean commerce, INA helped the young U.S. shipping industry flourish. Its historic ability to accumulate, diversify and manage volatile risks in a way that provides security to its clients helped transform INA into the respected insurance leader it is today.
INA continually strived to break through established barriers to develop new products and new markets - a tradition the ACE Group of Companies continues today.
